Born in 480 in central Italy, St. Scholastica was the twin sister of St. Benedict, the father of Western monasticism, establishing the first Benedictine monastery for women at Plombariola.

The Storm That Changed Everything

During their last meeting, sensing her death was near, Scholastica asked Benedict to stay longer. When he refused, she turned to God in prayer, and a sudden storm made it impossible for him to leave. “I asked a favor of you and you refused. I asked it of God and he granted it.”

A Prayer to St. Scholastica

O God, to show us where innocence leads, you made the soul of your virgin Saint Scholastica soar to heaven like a dove in flight. Amen.
